Meditation became a game-changer for my mindset and emotional wellbeing back in 2017, after I hit rock-bottom burnout and realised I’d completely lost myself in the chaos of life. I was constantly reacting, overthinking, and giving my energy away without ever replenishing it.
During a 7-day Mindset & Meditation challenge, I discovered something surprising: meditation isn’t just for the super-spiritual or incense-burning yogis.
It’s for women like us — busy minds, full plates, big emotions, and even bigger expectations.
Meditation taught me how to pause before overwhelm hits, reset my energy, and prime my mind for calm and confidence before the day begins. It’s one of the simplest tools I use personally and teach my clients to help them feel more centred, intentional, and connected to themselves again.

Why is the simple practice of sitting in stillness so hard...?

Stillness is hard because it requires us to pause the roles, responsibilities, and identities we’ve built our lives around. When we finally stop, we hear the truth beneath the noise... what we need, what we feel, what’s not working, and who's triggering us. For many women, that level of honesty feels uncomfortable at first. But it’s also where clarity, confidence, and inner calm begin.

How to get started

The concept of meditation can sometimes feel daunting for beginners. How do I do it? Where, do I do it? How will I get the most benefit? Should I sit or lay down? The mind gets busy wondering... am I even doing it right? 

A confused mind will always say NO and will resist a new habit. So, let me break it down in the simplest way for you to get started with meditation:

1. There is no right or wrong way to meditate. 
The first few times (sometimes longer) you sit in meditation may feel a little awkward or clunky. You might not get through the entire meditation. That's ok, just stay as long as you can!

2. Start with a short 3-7 guided meditation with music.
I promise it will be much more enjoyable than attempting to meditate in total silence, while your mind throws thoughts at you! You'll have something to focus on more easily.

3. The aim of meditation is not to PUSH AWAY or DENY your thoughts.
It's about becoming the observer of your thoughts. Your thoughts will no doubt arise to distract you, as they always do - so practice refocusing your attention back to the audio with the simple intention of letting the thoughts go. 

4. Get comfortable!
Find a chair, couch or seated space with pillows and a blanket where you'll be able to fully relax. Not need to sit cross legged on the floor, unless that is comfortable for you!

5. Keep a journal or notebook nearby
I often get my most creative ideas during meditation, you might want to write down any thoughts or ideas that come to you once you finish.

What's different about Janel's Guided Meditations?

Meditation is a very personal experience. Eeach meditation you spend time in will have a different style, theme and voice. Your task is to find the meditation teacher or style that resonates most with you. My guided meditations specifically use words of "positive affirmation" and visualisation as I believe the combination of positive language and creative imagination are the key to empowering your mindset. My intention is to remind you of the incredible strength of your spirit and the wise wisdom you alread have within you!
